Why meal delivery can help with meal planning
As you probably already know, meal planning is absolutely essential for healthy eating, weight loss, and even saving money.
However, while cooking at home is the best way to monitor what you’re putting into your body, it’s not always easy to do especially if you lead a busy lifestyle.
Meal delivery, especially for those trying to eat healthily, lose weight and/or gain muscle, have become extremely popular, and for good reason (to be discussed a bit later).
But if you haven’t tried any sort of ready to go frozen meals delivery service, you may be wondering whether it would actually be worth your hard-earned dollars. I know I did.
Pre-prepared foods have some advantages, the most obvious one being convenience and not having to cook or clean.
But you will understandably want to know the other pros and even cons of meal delivery.
So here are some things to consider before you pull out your wallet, and to really see whether these types of meals are right for you.
First things first, though! If you decide to try My Muscle Chef, don’t forget to get $20 off your first order using promo code HNL20 when you checkout.

How I heard about My Muscle Chef
I first found out about My Muscle Chef through F45 and a few friends who tried it during one of F45’s 8 Week Challenge.
Since I heard and read convincing reviews, I went ahead and tried it for myself (though not through F45).
I am an F45-loving fitness junkie so it did help to know that My Muscle Chef meals were F45-approved.
There is no doubt that My Muscle Chef supports clean eating and healthy portioned meals that offer a good balance of macronutrients. Just choose the meal plans designed for this purpose.
Why I Tried My Muscle Chef
Well, first, here is a quick lowdown on why our family decided to try a meal delivery service like My Muscle Chef.
Our family schedule with young children has been crazy busy lately and more so, because of shift work and other responsibilities.
We were ordering pizza or some other takeaway more than I’d like to admit. And it wasn’t helping our budget since takeaway is usually pricier than freshly homemade food.
Anyway, the main reason we decided to go for it was in the hope that it will alleviate some of the stress associated with having too much on my plate (pun not intended).
And secondly, we wanted to cut back on all the junk and takeaway we were ordering and try some healthier meals instead.
The main thing for us was to have a supply of pre-cooked food in the freezer as a backup for those crazy stressful evenings when we don’t have time or energy to cook dinner or meal prep. And especially so, after a long day at work.
So after searching and sifting through numerous reviews of all the popular options, I found that My Muscle Chef was the most affordable. It also helped that a few friends of ours had tried and loved them.
Besides that, the meals looked and sounded great. We were ready to get started, and it’s been a great experience so far.

What kinds of meals does My Muscle Chef offer?
My Muscle Chef offers a range of lunch and dinner meals as well as snacks. They also have meal plans specifically designed for weight loss, muscle gain, and performance.
Their meals offer various proteins including chicken, beef, lamb, kangaroo, and fish, as well as a vegetarian menu. This is probably the biggest variety of meals I’ve seen based on the search I did for different suppliers.
For more information on the meals, you can click on the info button next to the name of the meal (or click on the image), and it will show you ingredients, description, and nutrition profile.
How much does it cost?
The pricing on My Muscle Chef meals varies and depends on the size of the meals you select and how many meals you order (they have package deals). Typically, it ranges between $7-$10 per meal.
They do have specials on certain meals, and deals based on the quantity of your order. For example, if you order 13 meals, you get 2.5% off. But if you order 25 meals, you get 17.5% off.
The discount numbers may change, of course, so these numbers are just examples (as seen while writing this review).
How do you order on My Muscle Chef?
When you visit My Muscle Chef, you will notice there are two ways you can order. You can click on Meal Plans to order based on your goals and calorie requirements.
They have options such as Weight Loss, Muscle Gain, Performance, Vegetarian Pack and Summer Shred Pack. So if your main goal is to lose weight, then the Weight Loss meal plan is the recommended meal plan.
Another way to order is to click on Menu at the top, which will take you to the menu builder. From there, you can choose any meal based on your preferences.
This is super easy to navigate. There are even little icons you can click to filter the menu based on preference such as chicken, vegetarian or snacks.
Just hit Add to select your meals, then proceed to checkout, and enter the special discount code HNL20 to get an extra $20 off.
How big are the meals?
The meals come in two sizes when you’re selecting them using the menu builder. You can either choose 250-400g or 400-500g meals.
I found the 250-400g meals sufficient and eating this way actually helps me better control portion sizes. It’s usually easy to overeat when I cook food at home since I tend to portion out double the amount that I actually need to feel full.
What are the pros and cons of My Muscle Chef meals?
Here are the pros:
- Tasty meals – My husband and I absolutely loved the taste of the meals we have ordered from My Muscle Chef, so far.
- Easy to order – Great experience to navigate the website and order quickly.
- Pick Up option for NSW – Currently, My Muscle Chef offers various pickup locations for those who live in NSW. But if you don’t live there, they deliver to over 3000 locations across Australia so do not fret 😉
- Delivery option – Meals were delivered to our door in great condition (still completely frozen) and on time. Simply go to https://www.mymusclechef.com/delivery and put your postcode in the search tab, to check if they deliver to your area 🙂
- Good quality – My Muscle Chef provides meals free of artificial additives and chemicals. Their chicken is hormone and antibiotic-free.
- Good portion sizes – Perfect serving size encourages healthy eating by helping you avoid overeating.
- Less cooking/cleaning – Naturally, having pre-prepared food reduced the number of times you cook and clean.
- Great variety – I love the variety of meals offered and enjoy eating vegetarian as well as popular meals such as Mongolian Lamb and Beef Brisket.
- Environmentally friendly – Meals come in recyclable food containers

Here is the only downside:
- Cost – As mentioned, currently, My Muscle Chef seems to be the cheapest meal delivery service in Australia.
However, meal delivery will always be slightly more expensive than cooking at home. But that’s understandable since you are paying for convenience.
In our case, all the pros outweigh the cost of the meals. Less stress, healthier meals, great-tasting food, and the convenience of having backup meals in the freezer has been a huge help!
And that’s a wrap!
As you can see, there are a lot of pros to getting your meals delivered to your door. It can really help you eat healthier if you struggle with eating junk food and takeaway (like me).
It’s also a great way to achieve your goals relating to weight loss or muscle gain, especially if you choose their recommended meal plans.
